This is a classic White Sandwich Bread recipe, and so easy! The loaves bake up incredibly tall, soft and fluffy… the perfect white bread!
Are you a bread fanatic? Isn’t there something fantastic about a great piece of bread?
Whether you’re making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, grilled cheese, a big sandwich piled high with fixings, or simply slathering a piece with butter… I’ve always found it to be great comfort food.
There are so many reasons you need to hurry up and make this bread immediately, so, let’s get baking!
TO MAKE WHITE SANDWICH BREAD, YOU WILL NEED
- 390g bread flour
- ¼ cup nonfat dry milk powder
- 2 ¼ tsp instant dry yeast
- 2 tbsp butter at room temperature (or just microwave for 20s)
- 1 ½ tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 cup water
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
HOW DO YOU MAKE WHITE SANDWICH BREAD?
Step 1: Mix all that up in a stand mixer for about seven minutes. The dough will be dense and pretty easy to handle.
Step 2: Form into a smooth ball, transfer to a greased bowl, and cover so it doesn’t dry out. Let rise for 1.5 hours.
Step 3: Roll the dough into a log and put into a greased (I used shortening) 9″ pullman pan.
Step 4: Let it rise for about another hour until the dough is about a half inch from the top of the pan.
Step 5: Put the lid on and bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
Step 6: Remove the lid and bake for another 10 minutes. (You can check if its done with a probe thermometer — bread needs to hit 190F in the center)
Step 7: Let’s it cool down on a rack, then slice and enjoy your freshly baked White Sandwich Bread.
RECIPE NOTES AND HELPFUL TIPS:
This recipe can be halved to make only one loaf.
You can substitute active dry yeast for the instant yeast. Ensure that it is indeed activated before continuing, and note that the rise times will be slightly longer.
After the first rise, punch down the dough to release excess gas and redistribute the yeast for a better rise during the second proofing.
Allow the bread to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing. Cutting it too soon can result in a gummy texture.
